The mercantile is back.
What this building has been doing since 1867.
For 150 years, this building has had one job: be the place this corner of Nova Scotia comes to when something needs building, fixing, or finishing. It opened as a mercantile in 1867 — dry goods, hardware, ship supplies, paint, whatever Lunenburg’s tradespeople and householders walked in asking for.
Lunenburg itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and this storefront is part of why. The clapboard, the bay window, the way the door is set back from the sidewalk — they’re original. So is the floor inside.
We’re carrying that on. Ironbound Paint Co. is Lunenburg County’s only Dulux dealer. Mixed in Canada. Sold by your neighbour.
